Gampaha is the capital of the Gampaha District in Western Province and is a major city around Colombo. Gampaha is connected to the junctions of Miriswatte, Yakkala, Mudungoda with a distance of 3.5 km, 4 km and 7 km in sequence, on the way to Colombo from Kandy. The distance is 13 km from Ja-ela on the way to Katunayake-Airport from Colombo and 11 km from Minuwangoda on the road from Veyangoda to the Katunayake-Airport. Henarathgoda Botanical Gardens is located near the city of Gampaha and the first rubber tree in Sri Lanka was planted in this park. Gampaha can be reached by train on the railway from Colombo to Polgahawela.
Gampaha has a Railway Station and 30 minutes away from Aireport. Gampaha is well known in Sri Lanka for the sale of imported reconditioned vehicles.
Gampaha is the home of the famous Ayurveda physician "Wickremaarachchi" that has produced hundreds of Ayurveda Physicians who became known as Ayurveda doctors Gampaha. It is currently known as the "Wickremaarachchi" Ayurveda Medical School.
